These last couple of days, I’ve felt almost heavy with something undefinable that needed to be expressed. The best description of it that I could come to in my head was the four words of the track title: Big Bad Bird Energy. Something about compressed tension: motion ready to spring out, an articulate cry smearing across registers. Whatever it was, it feels like it’s out now, with the results captured here.

That this is a tense moment is undeniable. Prolonged injustice has an implacable force to it that just keeps growing unless it’s properly addressed by something more than lip service or sloganeering, but the source of that injustice is perhaps deeper than many would bring themselves to admit. It is not farfetched at all to think that our contemporary Western capitalist civilisation is quickly running out of opportunities to address its addiction to oppression and subjugation and that each remaining opportunity is therefore more precious than the last, given the inevitably dire result if nothing is changed.

This moment doesn’t belong to me, I know that. But sitting on my hands isn’t the answer either. It feels important to say something. All money I raise from this release will be donated to community bail funds, mutual aid funds and racial justice organisations in the United States.
